10:40am | It’s no secret that finding legal overnight parking in downtown Long Beach can be a chore. With limited public lots, sometimes odd street sweeping hours and a dense population, there just aren’t that many spaces to go around.
But the Parking Initiative run by Councilmember Robert Garcia’s 1st District office has already created 400 new spaces for residents, and they’re looking to open many more. Private and city-owned parking lots have agreed to open themselves to overnight residents, who can apply for monthly permits that range between $20 and $40 depending on the lot.
“One of my priorities when I took office was to improve the parking situation,” Garcia said in a statement. “These open lots will not solve all of our parking challenges, but it’s a step in the right direction. We will continue to look for new lots, and explore other parking suggestions and solutions including the reduction of red curb space, diagonal parking on appropriate wide streets, adding bike lanes to reduce auto traffic, and permitted parking.”
Residents can visit ThePermitStore.com and enter the code “Long Beach CPP” to select their location and purchase a permit. Contact the 1st District office at 562.570.6919 or [email protected] with any questions or additional information. The now available lots are listed below.
