8:31am | If you ever did a real estate deal with John Corcoran, let’s hope you read the small print — he probably didn’t.

Despite completing a college education, teaching high school for nearly two decades and developing million-dollar real estate deals, Corcoran did not learn to read until the age of 48.

Corcoran, who wrote a book, “The Teacher Who Couldn’t Read,” and is founder of the John Corcoran Foundation, will be speaking to the Long Beach Rotary Club on Wednesday. His subject: literarcy.

“It gets interesting when you hear this guy was a teacher,” said Brian Russell, a long-time Rotary member and a local commercial real estate broker.

The meeting is Wednesday, May 4, at noon on The Queen Mary. Attendees must be members or guests of Rotary members. For information on joining Rotary, visit RotaryLongBeach.org.
