1:52pm | A scoping meeting is set for Wednesday for the public to comment on and hear about the Port of Long Beach’s environmental impact report on a proposal to build a grain export facility on the Navy Mole at Pier T on Terminal Island.
The meeting is set for 6 p.m. at Long Beach City Hall, in City Council Chambers, at 333 W. Ocean Blvd.
Pier T container terminal operator Total Terminals International has proposed installing a grain transloading facility on a vacant 10-acres parcel. The project would enable the transfer of grain and dried distillers grains with solubles, a cattle feed, via existing rail and shipping infrastructure, thereby increasing capacity to 750,000 tons of material a year, according to www.portworld.com.
The Port’s notice of preparation study is available at www.polb.com/ceqa. Comments on the notice of preparation will be accepted until September 6, 2011. Written comments can be mailed to Richard D. Cameron, Director of Environmental Planning, Port of Long Beach, 925 Harbor Plaza, Long Beach, CA 90802.
