A Belmont Shore bar and a Downtown Long Beach club made the list of the 100 highest grossing nightlife establishments in the country, according to revenue statistics released by the industry magazine Nightclub & Bar last week.
Sevilla Nightclub–an upstairs counterpart to Cafe Sevilla restaurant on Pine Ave.–came in at #28 on list with an estimated $10-$15 million a year in sales during 2013, making it the third highest-grossing bar in California. Panama Joe’s Cantina on Second Street ranked #83 on the Nightclub & Bar Top 100 list with excess of $5 million in sales last year, just below its sister location, Baja Sharkeez in Hermosa Beach.
The magazine, which lists itself as “the industry’s premier trade show and media outlet,” creates the annual listing through a program of primary research and analysis of secondary sources in which 1400 nightclubs, bars and lounges were surveyed and public and industry databases were scanned. Actual rankings were determined by estimated midopint of annual revenue.
Many of the top bars on the list are in nightlife hotspots like Las Vegas and Miami, but the unexpected Long Beach additions–especially Sevilla’s high ranking–show that the city’s drinking and dining districts continue to bring in an impressive amount of customers and revenue.
