melissaetheridgeThe Historical Society of Long Beach will be debuting its LGBT History Project Saturday February 23, and on hand to celebrate this event will be Melissa Etheridge. The project will include stories, photographs, artifacts and an interactive timeline that documents and presents the contributions of the city’s LGBT community.

Starting at 7PM for the reception, there will also be ribbon cutting ceremony, silent and live auction, DJs and music. Tickets are currently still on sale for this event, listed at $100 for non Historical Society of Long Beach Members, and $90 for HSLB members.

If the opening event is a little too steep, the exhibit will still be up free of charge until next January.

Among the historically valuable items on display will be one of Etheridge’s gold records. Early in her career, she performed at Que Sera, and the record on display will be the very same one she gave to the local bar.

Other parts of the exhibit will include a compilation of oral histories, production of a video documentary, and other historical documents related to the controversy surrounding the first Pride Parade and Festival in the city.

Opening Preview Gala for the “Coming Out in Long Beach” Exhibit will be held Saturday February 23 at the Historical Society Long Beach, 4260 Atlantic Ave. For more information, click here
