Nominations are now open for the second annual Shaun Lumachi Rising Star Award, a recognition for motivated small business owners who demonstrate high growth potential and job creation.

The award was founded last year in honor of former publisher and co-founder of the Long Beach Post Shaun Lumachi, a local innovator, brilliant businessman and avid community leader who died in a fatal car crash on December 3, 2011 while in Miami on business. His passion for creating a better and more connected community in Long Beach is only a fraction of the accomplishments he acheived during his short 33 years.

Presented by the Long Beach City College Small Business Development Center, where Lumachi was chair before his passing, the award seeks to spotlight entrepreneurs on the rise who seek to grow and develop their businesses while creating a positive impact for Long Beach and beyond.

The winner of last year’s inaugural award was local contractor Miguel Guajardo, whose three-year-old company El Camino Construction & Engineering was anticipating growth from 20 employees and annual revenues of $3 million to 50 employees and revenues of $10 million annually.

Nominations are open through March 7 and the winner will be announced April 3 at the 2014 Entrepreneur of the Year event co-sponsored by the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.
