The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners announced its selection of a new board president Wednesday, with Monday’s election of Lori Ann Farrell Harrison. The Board, composed of five members, also announced its selection of Lou Anne Bynum as Vice President and Tracy Esgoscue as secretary in a release.
Farrell Harrison is the current director of finance for the City of Huntington Beach and a resident of the Fifth District, according to the release.
“I look forward to working with our customers, staff of the Harbor Department, the City of Long Beach and the community to further our goal of strengthening our Port so it continues to be one of the most competitive seaports in the world,” said Farrell Harrison in a statement. “Thank you for putting your faith and confidence in me.”
Farrell Harrison was appointed by then-Mayor Bob Foster in 2013, and will take over the president’s duties, which include chairing board meetings and representing the Port in the public sphere.
Farrell Harrison is a former chief financial officer (CFO) for the City of Long Beach and, with her election, succeeds Doug Drummond. Bynum’s selection as Vice President has her succeeding Rich Dines. The City Charter mandates the mayor of Long Beach appoint city residents to the Harbor Commission for a six-year term.
The Board of Harbor Commissioners oversees the Port of Long Beach and directs the CEO of the port. The CEO manages more than 500 people at the City of Long Beach Harbor Department in the development and promotion of the POLB.
