Port of Long Beach Awards Students During Fifth Annual Education Event
The Harbor Department provides sponsorship funds to assist local organizations with putting on events for the Long Beach community. The port has given a total of $794,500 to more than 250 organizations this fiscal year ending September 30. Port-sponsored events also aim to engage attendees about its role in international trade, environmental sustainability and education outreach, according to the release.
POLB staff attend select sponsored events to provide the aforementioned information about the port, which also receives advertising benefits including booths, signage and more.
“Our community sponsorship program allows us to support diverse groups and events in the city,” said Harbor Commission President Lou Anne Bynum in a statement. “The program highlights the Port’s dedication to social responsibility, and helps to spread the word on our positive economic impact on the city and region.”
Some of the events that are sponsored this year include POW! WOW! Long Beach, Meals on Wheels of Long Beach’s 5K Run, Walk and Roll, the United Cambodian Community’s Heart of Long Beach Summer Health Fair and WomenShelter of Long Beach’s Domestic Violence Awareness.
