A traffic collision on the Gerald Desmond Bridge involved eight vehicles, authorities said.

detourmapSouthbound Harbor Scenic Drive will be closed nightly beginning this Friday in conjunction with the Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement Project.

Southbound Harbor Scenic Drive from the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway will be closed nightly beginning Friday at 9:00PM through mid-April.

A detour for traffic to Terminal Island, Piers F – J at the Port of Long Beach, the Queen Mary, cruise terminal and waterfront businesses will be placed at the Pico Avenue (Piers B – E) exit.

The following areas will also experience street closures due to the bridge project:

Eastbound Pier S Lane Closure
Type of Work: Lane closure
Area of Work: Eastbound Pier S Lane will be closed for approximately two months. Flaggers will be present from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily to direct both directions of traffic. Outside of these hours and on weekends, only westbound traffic will be allowed.
When: Ongoing, beginning 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23 through approx. late-April

Pier S Lane Rolling Closure
Type of Work: Lane closure
Area of Work: There will be short-term rolling closures on Pier S Lane for construction equipment mobilization. Flaggers will be present to maintain traffic.
When: Daily from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 to Friday, Feb. 27

Pier D Street Lane Closure
Type of Work: Lane closure
Area of Work: There are alternating lane closures on Pier D Street. Flaggers are present to direct traffic.
When: Daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. through approx. mid-March

Southbound Harbor Scenic Drive Lane Closure
Type of Work: Lane closure
Area of Work: The inside lane of southbound Harbor Scenic Drive is closed from the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway to Ocean Boulevard.
When: Ongoing through approx. early-March

Northbound Pico Avenue Lane Closure
Type of Work: Lane closure
Area of Work: A short stretch of northbound Pico Avenue is reduced to one lane between the westbound Ocean Boulevard off-ramp and Pier D Street.

Pier T Avenue Ramp Closure
Type of Work: Ramp closure
Area of Work: The Pier T Avenue on-ramp to westbound Ocean Boulevard is closed. The entrance to the detour route along Pier S Lane is approximately 300 feet from the former westbound on-ramp at the Pier T Avenue/Pier T Lane intersection.

SB I-710 Freeway to WB Ocean Blvd. Connector Closure
Type of Work: Freeway connector closure
Area of Work: The southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway to westbound Ocean Boulevard connector is closed through 2016. The detour for traffic headed to Terminal Island and San Pedro is southbound Pico Avenue to westbound Ocean Boulevard. Follow detour signs for “Terminal Island.” Detour map available here.

Westbound Ocean Blvd. Lane Reduction
Type of Work: Lane closure
Area of Work: Westbound Ocean Boulevard from downtown Long Beach is reduced to one lane approaching the Gerald Desmond Bridge.

SB Harbor Scenic Drive to SB Pico Avenue Ramp Closure (POLB)
Type of Work: Ramp closure
Area of Work: The off-ramp from southbound Harbor Scenic Drive to southbound Pico Avenue is closed. Continue south on Harbor Scenic Drive to Harbor Plaza west for access to Pico Avenue, and Piers F and G.
When: Daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Feb. 23

EB Pier T Avenue Lane Closure (SCE)
Type of Work: Lane closure
Area of Work: The outside lane of eastbound Pier T Avenue will be closed between the on-ramp to eastbound Ocean Boulevard and the intersection of Pier T Avenue and Pier T Lane. One lane will remain open at all times.
When: 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 to 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23

SB Harbor Scenic Drive Lane Closure (POLB)
Type of Work: Lane closure
Area of Work: The outside lane of southbound Harbor Scenic Drive is closed south of Ocean Boulevard to the southbound Pico Avenue off-ramp, which is also closed.
When: Daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Feb. 27

WB Ocean Boulevard to SR-47/SR-103 Intersection Lane Closure (Caltrans)
Type of Work: Lane closure
Area of Work: The dedicated right turn lane for northbound Terminal Island Freeway (SR-47/SR-103) from westbound Ocean Boulevard is closed. Access through the intersection and northbound Terminal Island Freeway is maintained.
