Two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence in a DUI checkpoint held over the weekend in East Long Beach.

The checkpoint, conducted by the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) Traffic Section, was held on Saturday between 7:00PM and 3:00AM on southbound Pacific Coast Highway south of Second Street.

During the operation, 1,270 vehicles passed through the checkpoint with 433 drivers being screen for DUI and valid licenses.

The operation resulted in two drivers arrested for DUI, four standardized field sobriety tests conducted, four drivers cited for unlicensed driving, five drivers cited for a suspended license and 22 drivers cited for traffic violations.

The LBPD also announced it will conduct a DUI saturation patrol this Saturday in their “ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways.”

The checkpoint and saturation patrol were funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
