A bystander was taken to the hospital just after midnight on Saturday after he was struck by stray gunfire in North Long Beach following a dispute between two men, police said.

Officers responded to the 300 block of E. Market Street around 12:18 a.m., where they located the victim, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police say two men were having a verbal dispute when one of them started to run away. The second man fired shots toward him when an uninvolved man was struck in his upper-body. Both men fled the scene.

The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the area and transported the victim to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

No other information was immediately available and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
