According to a release issued by Californians Against Fracking, a coalition seeking to win a statewide ban on fracking and other extreme oil and gas extraction techniques, a group of hazmat suit-wearing demonstrators will protest a state-run “aquifer exemption” workshop in Long Beach this Tuesday from noon to 2:00PM.

On Tuesday, March 24, the state’s Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources will hold an “aquifer exemption” workshop aimed at assisting oil companies “exploit legal loopholes to get federal permission to continue this polluting practice,” according to the release. The protest group will meet outside the Holiday Inn Long Beach Airport on Lakewood Blvd. to rally.

“Instead of this ‘Toxic Dumping for Dummies’ class, Gov. Brown’s regulators should protect our water from oil waste,” said Ash Lauth of Californians Against Fracking, in a statement. “During this devastating drought, oil companies should not use our aquifers as trash dumps for fracking flowback and other dangerous fluids. The governor must take emergency action to halt fracking and shut down illegal waste injection into protected underground water supplies.”
