A car overturned on its side after it collided and sheared off a fire hydrant Monday morning in East Long Beach, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jack Crabtree said.

At Wardlow Road and Bellflower Boulevard at around 9 a.m., firefighters quickly pulled out the driver from the car and shut off the water erupting from the fire hydrant, Crabtree said.

Fire personnel evaluated the patient at the scene but the patient declined to be transported to a hospital, Crabtree said. Details of the patient’s injuries were not available, he said.
