More coverage is coming soon, but the Long Beach City Council this afternoon approved the Fiscal Year 2010 Budget by a unanimous 9-0 vote. The decision ends a months-long process that forced the Council to deal with a $38 million deficit and proposed cuts to areas such as public safety, parks and recreation and youth services. Some of those proposed cuts were spared, but that decision may take its toll as Long Beach faces another deficit in 2011 and even more dire straights in 2012.
Not all were spared, though: the Los Angeles Times this evening examines the effect that the budget approval will have on the Long Beach Museum of Art. In the end, it seemed as though tonight’s vote was only a formality after the Council nearly approved the budget one week ago.
More on the budget’s passing is soon to come…
