Yes… an actual tornado warning.  Around 9:15pm last night, the National Weather Service issued an honest-to-God tornado warning for Long Beach and surrounding communities.

A rapidly moving thunderstorm with rotation capable of producing a tornado was observed four miles southwest of Long Beach, moving North at 25 mph.

“IF IN MOBILE HOMES OR VEHICLES,” read the warning (in all caps), “EVACUATE THEM AND GET INSIDE A SUBSTANTIAL SHELTER. IF NO SHELTER IS AVAILABLE…LIE FLAT IN THE NEAREST DITCH OR OTHER LOW SPOT AND COVER YOUR HEAD WITH YOUR HANDS.”

The threat was very real, and thankfully, it subsided without any major damage.  However, there are some reports of some trees that came down.

Friday’s forecast calls for clouds with possible showers, while steady rains with strong winds are predicted throughout the weekend.  Stay updated with the latest here.
