Long Beach’s proposed minimum wage study has moved further off the ground, as the city announced the community review process Thursday, set to be implemented by the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) and the Long Beach City Council.

The review process, which will consist of community meetings to garner feedback and provide transparency in September, October and November, was approved by the city council at its Tuesday regular meeting.

“It is important that we move forward with a community process that is collaborative, open and balanced,” said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement. “I encourage residents, workers, and employers to participate in these six meetings and roundtables over the next couple of months.”

The first three meetings will inform a LAEDC report that includes a section capturing public comment, according to a release issued by the city. The second three meetings will then commence, to allow the community further review and comment of the study.

The council will review the public comment and report findings in early December 2015, said the release.

“I’m looking forward to addressing this important issue at our Economic Development and Finance (ED&F) Committee of the City Council and to receiving input on all facets that will impact our communities,” said Councilwoman Stacy Mungo, chair of the ED&F Committee in a statement.

These six meetings are scheduled as follows:

  • September 29: Economic Development Commission (4:00PM, City Council Chambers)
  • October 5: Mayor’s Roundtable (5:30PM, Expo Arts Center, 4321 Atlantic Avenue)
  • October 29: Economic Development and Finance Committee meeting (7:30AM, Long Beach City College)
  • November 17: Mayor’s Roundtable (12:00PM, Admiral Kidd Park, 2125 Santa Fe Avenue)
  • November 20: Economic Development and Finance Committee meeting (4:00PM, Bay Shore Library, 195 Bay Shore Avenue)
  • November 24: Economic Development Commission (6:30PM, City Council Chambers)
