Curtis Tani, who has served as the City of Long Beach’s Director of Technology Services since 2004, has announced that he will officially retire come September 12.

Tani has been a longtime employee of the City, holding his first position as Senior Auditor in 1990. Following that, he served as Acting Director and Customer Services Manager for Technology Services, as well as Assistant to the City Manager.

“It has been a pleasure and honor to serve the City I grew up in, and to work with so many talented employees dedicated to making Long Beach an even better city,” Tani said in a statement.

Tani’s tenure as the head of Technology Services saw the implementation of tech essentials, including the expansion of fiber optics and wireless networks, the creation of smartphone apps, and the launch of the Citizen Technology Advisory Committee. This work helped Long Beach become a Top 10 Digital City in 2011.

The City has announced they will conduct a nationwide search to replace Tani. In the interim, Chris Wilding will serve as Acting Director.
