The motorcyclist killed in a Central Long Beach crash Tuesday afternoon was a 26-year-old man who didn’t have a valid driver’s license, according to police.

Police said the man was riding at a high rate of speed on Pacific Coast Highway when a car turned left in front of him at Lemon Avenue around 4 p.m.

The motorcycle hit the car, throwing the rider and sending the car spinning from the force of the crash, the Long Beach Police Department said in a news release.

Paramedics found the rider lying along the curb and took him to the hospital where he was declared dead, according to authorities.

Police said the car, a 2018 Dodge Challenger, was driven by a 20-year-old woman. The car was headed east on PCH before making the turn, and the motorcycle was headed west on PCH when it hit the car, police said. Both entered the intersection on a green light, according to authorities.

In addition to having a suspended or revoked license, the motorcyclist didn’t have a valid motorcycle endorsement, according to police.

Authorities haven’t yet publicly identified the motorcyclist, saying only that he’s a Los Angeles resident.

Police interviewed the Dodge’s driver, who was uninjured, and released her at the scene, according to a news release. Detectives are continuing to investigate.
