Long Beach and city public safety agencies will gather Saturday for the sixth annual READY Long Beach Community Preparedness Expo at the Walter Pyramid at Cal State Long Beach.

The event will give residents crucial information to prepare for emergencies such as floods, heat waves and earthquakes. Given the recent spate of earthquakes that rocked the Ridgecrest area—and were felt in Long Beach—officials say residents need to be prepared for a strong quake closer to home.

“The Ridgecrest earthquakes this past July have reminded folks that the right time to get ready is right now,” Mayor Robert Garcia said in a statement.

The expo will feature information booths, emergency preparedness demonstrations, emergency supplies for purchase, a kids’ fun zone, food for purchase, and multiple displays of emergency response equipment.

The free event is sponsored by Long Beach CERT, in partnership with the Long Beach Fire Department, various city departments, CSULB and local businesses.

“READY Long Beach is about building resiliency within our community,” Fire Chief Xavier Espino said in a statement. “It is essential that we build a culture of preparedness through education and outreach.”

The event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Cal State Long Beach, 1250 Bellflower Blvd. Complimentary parking is available on campus in Parking Structure 1 off Merriam Way, south of Atherton Street.
