Firefighters were pumping water out of a Downtown loading dock Monday morning after a truck driver accidentally sheared a fire hydrant off its base, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jack Crabtree said.

The big-rig was backing into a loading dock on Long Beach Boulevard just south of Fourth Street when it clipped the hydrant around 5 a.m., according to authorities.

The water flooded the loading dock and set off a fire alarm at the Chuck E. Cheese’s on the corner of 4th and Long Beach Boulevard.

Crews were still working to pump out the water around 8 a.m.
