After a long wait, the laws banning cellular phone use while driving are finally upon us. Meant to force drivers to concentrate more on the road than their incoming call, the use of handheld telephones is strictly prohibited and enforced with a zero-tolerance policy. Motorists over the age of 18 are permitted to use hands-free headsets.
No driver under the age of 18 is allowed to use phones in any capacity behind the wheel. Even using a hands-free headset is punishable.
The new laws are fairly straightforward, but longbeach.gov has set up a helpful Frequently Asked Questions page to clear up any confusion. Drive safely!
