The City of Long Beach announced Monday that the community is invited to a meeting about an upcoming Belmont Shore Parking Study, set to take place at Bay Shore Community Congregational Church on Thursday, April 21 at 6:00PM.

The study will analyze factors that impact parking, including but not limited to, zoning regulations, capacity levels at existing parking facilities, mass transit and parking rates, according to the release.

The study will be conducted in the area approximately south of Livingston Drive and The Toledo, and west of Bay Shore Avenue to the beach-side lots.

The study will aim to find ways to increase parking availability in the Business District, while reducing parking impacts in residential areas. A Parking Management Plan will be developed based on the study.

Belmont Shore is notorious for its parking issues. In 2014, city council voted 7-0 against plans to purchase a residence with the intentions of adding eight parking spaces behind Simmzy’s restaurant, Jason Ruiz reported.

From a valet parking issue in 2009 to the smart parking meters implemented just last year, parking has always been a hot topic in the shore. And rightfully so, with Second Street’s bustling array of businesses sitting directly next to residential areas.

Additional community outreach meetings will be held before the final draft of the Parking Management Plan will be presented to the Planning Commission and City Council for review, comment and policy direction, stated the release.
