The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued wind advisories for the southland today, and announced the first frost and freeze events of the season to occur in the Antelope Valley as a result of incoming cold, dry air.

“Critical fire weather” was also highlighted as a potential concern for parts of Los Angeles County—a result of high winds and low humidity.

Coastal communities should take heed of the high surf advisory, to go into effect starting at 4:00PM this afternoon until tomorrow morning at 10:00AM, with five- to eight-foot waves expected, along with high tides and rip currents.

At 8:00PM tonight, a wind advisory will be in effect, with gusty north winds expected to last until 2:00PM tomorrow. The wind is expected to blow between 15 and 30 mph, gusting to 45 mph, according to NWS.

The NWS forecasts partly cloudy skies today and highs of 69 in Long Beach, with a gradual warming to begin Thursday, when temperatures are expected to rise a few degrees with the predicted bright sunshine.
