The City Council decided to end the labor peace ballot measure last night leaving the fate of the big box measure to a city council reconsideration vote on November 6.

By a 5-4 vote, the council voted against a motion to let voters decide whether or not the city should allow big-box superstores to sell groceries. Instead, the council voted unanimously to delay the vote so city staff can provide more information on the cost of the election.

The measure that would require a Labor Peace Agreement for hotels on city-owned property was unanimously shot down.  Approval of the measure would likely have led to the creation of unions for no-strike guarantees.

Opponents rallied and gathered enough signatures to force both of the ordinances to be voter-approved.
