10:07am | Councilman Dee Andrews and Long Beach Recovery announced the 8th Annual Sixth District Recovery Awards will take place Thursday, September 15th, at 6:00 pm. The event will be held at the Ernest S. McBride, Sr. Park, 1550 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
The award ceremony will acknowledge 24 recipients who have overcome addiction. This year’s honorees include Long Beach residents Lynwood Young and Erin Martin. Mr. Young has overcome a 37 year addiction to drugs like cocaine and PCP. He is celebrating over 12 years clean and sober. Lynwood is now the Head Minister at New Hope Church of Christ Holiness USA, in Long Beach.
Ms. Martin has prevailed over her addiction to crack cocaine and has been on the road to recovery for over four years. When ask what advice she has for others that are fighting addiction she said,“Be willing to give up what you are for what you can become”.
“The road to recovery is a long and hard path that requires a solid support system. Acknowledging those who have overcome the trials and tribulations of addiction is a tribute to their new behaviors and a new life”, said Councilman Dee Andrews.
