3:00pm | With the window closing on the Long Beach City Council as they prepare to balance an $18.5 million budget deficit by September 15, 3rd District City Councilmember Gary DeLong is inviting the public to share their thoughts and opinions during a “Tele-Townhall” at 6:00pm on Wednesday night.

As Chair of the Budget Oversight Committee, DeLong holds a particularly important position in the City Council’s effort to balance this year’s budget. There is an item on the Council agenda tonight to actually pass the budget but there will likely be long discussion and then postponement of that item until next week once some of the details are more clearly explained by City Manager Pat West.

DeLong has held previous telephone townhall meetings in the past, but tomorrow’s will actually be available over a live internet video feed. Here’s how it works, according to a press release from DeLong today:

Utilizing Internet technology, over 2,000 3rd District residents will receive a telephone call at 6:00pm asking them if they would like to join the teleconference.  Additionally, these residents (as well as anyone else who has access to the Internet) will be able to view the teleconference live on UStream.com.
