In response to a 13.2% unemployment rate citywide, on Thursday Councilmember Steven Neal will host a 9th District Employment and Resource Fair in partnership with the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network.

“[I]t can be difficult for citizens to secure employment and overcome the many financial obstacles in our current economy,” says a press release from Neal’s office. “The purpose of this event is to provide assistance for residents who are facing these challenges.”

Amongst the assistance available to attendees will be specific information on how to avoid suffering a foreclosure, as well general information on home ownership and financial awareness.

Aside from workshops and services to help attendees secure employment, from 11am to 2pm several local area employers will be in attendance to meet with job-seekers.

ā€œI’m excited to work with Pacific Gateway to bring a dynamic group of participants to help serve unemployed and underemployed residents with great resources,ā€ says Neal.

Last month Larry Rice, a Pacific Gateway boardmember, noted that over the last year his organization has helped land jobs for 3,100 unemployed individuals.

The 9th District Employment and Resource Fair will be held Thursday, April 26, 2012, from 9am to 2pm at the North Long Beach Community Center (2311 E. South St., LB 90805). For more information call the 9th District Council office at (562) 570-6137 or e-mail [email protected].
