2:00pm | Following yesterday’s Parks and Recreation Commission action on the proposed Eastside dog park, Councilmember Patrick O’Donnell has released the following statement:

“Today the Long Beach Parks and Recreation Commission voted to support locating the proposed Eastside dog park in an old maintenance area south of Spring Street. After listening to a staff presentation, public testimony and many good questions, the Commission voted to support putting the dog park inside the Fourth District just off Spring Street. Thankfully, this negates the need to place it inside El Dorado Park and take away valuable parkland. Some had advocated for such a proposal.

“Clearly, our ‘Meet for the Mutts’ event last Sunday served to build consensus and addressed the concerns voiced by some. The on-site meeting allowed people to get a hands-on education of the proposal and gave those who attended the opportunity to ask direct questions of myself and Parks and Recreation staff. My office, along with Parks and Recreation staff worked hard on this proposal. I thank them for their hard work. This is what happens when we work together to achieve a common goal. Go Dog Park!

“This decision is good news for dog owners and park lovers, alike. Now, let’s get it funded and built!”
