An overnight crash involving multiple big rigs shut down the southbound lanes of the Long Beach (710) Freeway at the San Diego (405) Freeway for several hours, authorities said.
The collision, which reportedly happened at about 12:30AM on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at the Willow Street exit, involved at least three big rigs, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Francisco Villalobos.

Two trapped motorists, one in critical condition and the other in serious condition, were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals, he said.
All southbound lanes were closed until about 7:20AM while crews worked to clear the scene, the CHP reported.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
