Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at a North Long Beach garbage collection facility Sunday night but upon arrival found a semi-truck trailer ablaze, according to authorities.
Crews arrived at the Republic Services Bel-Art Transfer Station around 7:45 p.m. and spent nearly three hours on the scene containing and extinguishing the fire, which they were able isolate to one trailer, sparing other nearby trucks and a building, according to LBFD Capt. Jack Crabtree.
Crabtree said the contents of the trailer were nondescript debris but the effort to douse it was “labor intensive,” with 24 firefighters on scene during the peak of the incident.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
