A 24-year-old died Friday afternoon after being shot in North Long Beach in an incident police are investigating as possibly being gang-related.

Long Beach police officers responded to a shots-fired call at 59th St. and Linden Ave. at around 1:55PM. There, they discvoered Christopher Lane shot in the upper torso. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Though a motive for the shooting is still unknown, a preliminary investigation indicated that two black males were seen fleeing from the scene.

The murder occurred about a block west of the Atlantic Theatre, which was demolished a few weeks ago to make room for the New North Neighborhood Library, one of the area’s most anticipated public works projects. The demolition event kicked off the 9th District’s “Uptown Renaissance Festival,” which highlights the positive changes coming to North Long Beach.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives Hugo Cortes and Peter Lackovic at (562) 570-7244.
