UPDATE | A 28-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years in state prison yesterday for burglarizing a Bixby Knolls home that resulted in the fatal shooting of his female accomplice, officials with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. 

Gus Polly Adams was convicted August 22 of one count each of first-degree residential robbery and first-degree residential burglary, according to officials. The jury also found true the special allegations that Adams inflicted great bodily injury and elder abuse.

However, jurors acquitted Adams of one count of murder.

8/22/16 at 3:38PM | A 28-year-old man was found guilty Monday in the 2014 robbery of a Bixby Knolls home, during which his female accomplice was fatally shot by the homeowner, officials with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Gus Polly Adams was convicted of one count each of first-degree residential robbery and first-degree residential burglary, according to officials. The jury also found true the special allegations that Adams inflicted great bodily injury and elder abuse.

However, jurors acquitted Adams of one count of murder.

Authorities said that on July 22, 2014 Adams and fellow burglar Andrea Miller, 28, broke into the Long Beach home when the 80-year-old homeowner walked in while the pair burglarized his home.

“After Adams and Miller beat the victim, the elderly man armed himself with a handgun and fatally shot Miller,” a release stated.

 

Adams fled the scene after the shooting but was soon located and arrested by authorities who were alerted about the robbery.

Ruby Adams, the defendant’s mother who served as a lookout during the crime, pleaded no contest earlier this year to one count of first-degree residential burglary. She was sentenced to three years in state prison.

Gus Adams faces 13 years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 9.
