Three people were struck by gunfire in Long Beach Tuesday night when a vehicle they were sitting in was shot at by unknown assailants, authorities said. Authorities believe the incident was gang-related.

The shooting came to the attention of officers when they were dispatched to a local hospital at about 10:50PM on Tuesday, February 9 regarding a gunshot victim, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokesman Brad Johnson said. Staff reported that the victim had walked into their emergency room.

“Upon arrival officers found a male adult victim suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds to the upper torso,” stated Johnson.

While conducting their investigation, the officers were advised by hospital staff of two more gunshot victims—two women—who had also walked into the emergency room, he said.

One woman was struck in the upper torso and the other in the lower torso, said Johnson. Their injuries were non-life threatening.

Police determined all three victims were in the same vehicle when they were shot at by unknown suspects, according to Johnson.

Officials stated the victims were not fully cooperative with the investigation but did tell police the incident happened near Long Beach Boulevard and Willow Street in the city’s Wrigley neighborhood. Officers were unable to find a crime scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
