Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers have arrested a 38-year-old Long Beach resident on charges of annoying a child under the age of 18, indecent exposure and resisting arrest, according to LBPD spokesperson Nancy Pratt.

LBPD officers responded to a call regarding a suspect annoying a child and smoking a marijuana cigarette in the area of 5th and Pacific Ave at approximately 11:25AM Monday, according to Pratt. She also said that the man had openly urinated in front of a woman and her young daughter and made inappropriate remarks to the child.

When an officer arrived, the suspect fled on foot. Officers were able to catch up to the suspect on 6th St. and Pine Ave. in downtown Long Beach, when the suspect resisted arrest and a use of force occurred by the officers, Pratt stated in an email. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluation, which is a routine practice when a use of force occurs, according to Pratt.

The suspect has been identified as 38-year-old Johnnie Brooks of Long Beach. According to Pratt, he was booked for annoying a child under the age of 18, indecent exposure and resisting arrest. He is being held at Long Beach City Jail on $20,000 bail.
