UPDATE | The man killed by a gunshot wound to the upper torso early Sunday morning in the Poly neighborhood, at 12th and Locust, has been identified, and a GoFundMe has been set up in his name. The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) determined the incident was gang-related.
In the GoFundMe account, set up early this morning, the man is identified as Ricardo Garcia. Police confirmed the man shot early Sunday morning was 25-year-old Garcia, a resident of Long Beach.
The GoFundMe account states: “Juan Ricardo Garcia Was shot on the torso Sunday midnight 9/11 were asking for any type of help for his mother to pay the expenses anything helps even prayers I want to thank you for your help and blessings your way.”
The account has a goal of raising $10,000. It was unclear how much had been raised, as of Wednesday morning.

09/11 at 4:31PM | A man died after sustaining a gunshot wound to the upper torso early Sunday morning in the area of Locust Avenue and East 12th Street—just blocks away from where a mother and daughter died in early August.
According to a police release, Long Beach police officials were dispatched to the area at around 3:39AM, initially on an assault with deadly weapon call.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a man lying on the ground with a gunshot injury to the upper torso. Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel responded and determined the victims deceased at the scene.
Homicide detectives reportedly responded shortly after, commencing the investigation.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office is in the process of identifying the individual and will notify next of kin, according to the release.
No motive for the shooting is known, and the investigation remains ongoing.
