Long Beach police arrested one of two persons suspected of threatening a man when they pointed a gun at him in the city’s West Side Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Officers were flagged down by the victim near Wardlow Road and Santa Fe Avenue on Monday, September 5 at 1:29PM, according to Sgt. James Richardson of the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

The victim told officers a man seated in the passenger side of a vehicle had just pointed a gun at him, Richardson said.

After the victim described the vehicle, officers located a vehicle near 20th Street and Atlantic Avenue that they believed to be involved in the earlier incident.

“Officers followed the vehicle to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Long Beach Boulevard where the passenger in the vehicle exited the car and walked into a local business,” Richarson said.

At about 2:10PM, officers detained the driver at the scene without incident, he added.

A containment area was then set up and a SWAT team was activated to search for the second suspect, however, officers were not able to locate him.

The search also prompted the closure of PCH and Long Beach Boulevard for a period of time.

Officers booked the driver of the vehicle for assault with a deadly weapon, driving on a suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia and an outstanding arrest warrant.
