An assault suspect was taken into custody after barricading himself in a house in Artesia for about five hours Monday.
The situation began Monday morning in the 18500 block of Seine Avenue between 183rd and South streets where deputies from the Sheriff’s Lakewood Station responded to a call about an assault with a knife, according to the department.
When deputies arrived, the suspect went into a nearby home and “and refused to come out when ordered by the deputies,” the department said in a Facebook post.
Personnel from the Sheriff’s Department’s Special Enforcement Bureau responded at about 8:11 a.m. to assist, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
A Crisis Negotiation Team and a Mental Evaluation Team also responded to the scene, and, “The suspect was eventually taken into custody without incident,” around 1 p.m. the department said.
