A man who died after being struck by a vehicle just east of Long Beach City College on Wednesday morning has been identified, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Lamar Maxwell, a 65-year-old homeless man, was walking in the eastbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway near Ohio Avenue when he was struck from behind by a driver, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Maxwell died at the scene, authorities said.
The driver fled the scene before a woman, identified as 55-year-old Cher Srey of Long Beach, later turned herself in at the Signal Hill Police Department claiming to be the driver of the vehicle, police said. Srey was then transported to the LBPD station where she was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run before being released on her own recognizance.
Police said speed, impaired and distracted driving are not believed to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
