Authorities today identified a motorcyclist who was killed in a crash at Ocean Boulevard and the Terminal Island Freeway Thursday night.

Edward Thorp, 58, of Huntington Beach died at the scene of the collision, which occurred about 8 p.m., according to the coroner’s office and the Long Beach Police Department.

According to police, Thorp was riding eastbound on Ocean Boulevard, possibly at a high rate of speed, when his 2002 Triumph America hit the rear of a 2008 Acura that was also headed eastbound.

The crash threw Thorp into the westbound roadway where he was hit by two different motorists who didn’t stop, according to police. Detectives said last week that they’re still trying to find the two drivers who fled. They were driving a dark-colored vehicle—possibly an SUV—and a silver pickup truck, police said.

The Acura’s driver stayed at the scene and was not arrested, authorities said.

Police asked that anyone with information regarding this incident call Det. David Whelan at 562-570-7355.
