A bicyclist was killed early Sunday morning when he was struck by a vehicle on Orange Avenue north of Del Amo Boulevard, according to Long Beach Police.

Officers were dispatched to Orange Avenue at approximately 3:20 a.m. regarding a hit and run traffic collision between a vehicle and an adult male bicyclist.

Authorities say Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene and performed life saving measures, however the bicyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Police say the preliminary investigation showed that the victim was riding southbound on Orange Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle also traveling southbound on Orange. The vehicle failed to stop at the scene, say authorities, and fled before officers arrived.

At this time, police say there is no description of the suspect vehicle, and the cyclist’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the LA County Coroner’s Office.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact Detectives Kelsey Meyers or Shawn Loughlin of the LBPD collision investigation detail at 562-570-7355.
