A carful of burglars ended up in Bixby Knolls early Wednesday morning where Long Beach police helped catch most of them when they took off on foot after a pursuit, according to authorities.

The chase started in Hawthorne after a delivery worker saw four people breaking into a SanSai Japanese Grill at a shopping center on Rosecrans Avenue near the 405 Freeway, Hawthorne Police Lt. Jim Royer said.

Officers chased the car to Long Beach where local police were called in to help around 2:40 a.m. when the suspects reached Atlantic Avenue and 33rd Street, LBPD spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.

Once the car got to Cartagena Street and Gaviota Avenue, the four people inside fled on foot, according to police. A resident said at least a couple of suspects ended up on rooftops in the area.

Long Beach officers swarmed the neighborhood, set up a perimeter and warned people to stay in their homes. Royer said Long Beach police were instrumental in helping catch the three suspects they managed to find.

The fourth suspect is still missing, according to De Prez.
