Police arrested a stabbing suspect near Bluff Park after his victim and another man detained the attacker until officers arrived, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The stabbing happened around 9:30 p.m. Thursday at a bus stop near the intersection of Redondo Avenue and Ocean Boulevard, according to police.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body, LBPD spokesman Richard Mejia said. The wounded man and another man at the bus stop were holding down the suspected attacker, whom police took into custody, Mejia said.

Police identified the suspect as Ruben Lopez a 35-year-old Long Beach resident.

The Long Beach Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital to treat his injuries, Mejia said. And officers took Lopez to the Long Beach Jail where he was booked on suspicion of assault and held on $30,000 bail, according to Mejia.

Authorities have not identified a motive and the investigation is ongoing.
