Police arrested a suspect outside a Norwalk motel around noon today in connection with the stabbing death of another man last month, authorities announced today.

The victim was initially found on April 15 near a homeless encampment on Cherry Avenue and E. 68th Street after what detectives believe was a dispute between the two that reportedly escalated to the stabbing, police said.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers attempted to perform life-saving measures before transporting the victim to a local hospital, where he ultimately died, police said.

The suspect, Ricky Delarosa Fernandez, 41, is a person experiencing homelessness who fled the scene following the incident, according to police.

The victim has been identified as Ricardo Guerrero, a 31-year-old Long Beach resident.

There was no known relationship between the two, according to police.

Fernandez was booked on suspicion of one count of murder and is currently being held on $2 million bail in Long Beach Jail, police said. Detectives anticipate presenting the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office later this week for filing consideration, police said.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is urged to contact detectives Adrian Garcia or Sean Magee at 562-570-7244.
