Long Beach police say homicide detectives are investigating after a homeless man was found dead along the Los Angeles River underneath the 91 Freeway on Wednesday.
Officers responded to the area around 11:20 a.m. to assist firefighters already at the scene, according to Long Beach police. They’d been called about a body, and they soon discovered it was a man who’d been shot, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
“The victim is a male adult who appeared to be experiencing homelessness,” police said. “His identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner.”
Police said they do not know the motive for the shooting and are investigating the circumstances.
