Employees at a Long Beach credit union found one of their safes sitting on the sidewalk Thursday morning.

Police think it was left there early this morning after two burglars pried open the front door of the business. Police said they got called around 7:45 a.m. to the PostCity Financial Credit Union, which is in a business park just north of Long Beach Airport.

Employees had found damage inside and noticed two safes were missing, Sgt. Marcus Hodge said.

One of the safes—still locked—was left on the sidewalk about 20 yards from the front door. It looks like the burglars ditched it for some reason after loading up the other safe in a vehicle and taking off, Hodge said.

Police said the break-in happened around 1:55 a.m. Hodge said police have “good evidence” of when and how it happened.

A forensics technician was taking pictures of the safe and swabbing for fingerprints before it was moved Thursday morning.
