A Cal State Long Beach student is temporarily banned from campus after he repeatedly violated a restraining order imposed by an ex-girlfriend who is also a student at the university, according to a crime bulletin sent out last Friday.
Gabriel Montero-Stabile, 22, is prohibited from coming within 100 yards of both the victim and the university itself as part of a criminal protective order, CSULB Police Department officials stated.
University police filed the case against Montero-Stabile on April 7 with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office to keep him away from the campus while the adjudication of the case is underway, CSULB spokesman Mike Uhlenkamp told the Post.
Montero-Stabile was first arrested by university police on March 15 after he allegedly vandalized his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle—creating “significant damage”—and violated an emergency protective order and a court-imposed criminal protective order, officials said. The felony vandalism incident also included vehicle tampering charges.
He was arrested on campus again on Monday, April 4 when police observed him violating the restraining order, officials said.
“When Montero-Stabile saw the police officer approach him he ran from the scene,” officials stated. “He was arrested on campus a short time later.”
The latest court order is in effect until his case is resolved, and may be extended for a period of three to 10 years, officials said.
Authorities urge the public to notify university police immediately if he is seen on campus. If seen in violation of the criminal protective order, officials said he will be arrested and charged with additional violations.
The bulletin also provided a list of resources available to students who need assistance with the incident.
“Given the current climate on the campus of CSULB, the University Police Department recognizes that the concern for student safety is paramount,” officials stated.
