A man was taken into custody Saturday after allegedly breaking into a Long Beach residence and assaulting the woman inside, then carjacking a vehicle, which he crashed.

The alleged burglary and domestic violence occurred around 4 p.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of St. Louis Avenue, which is in Cambodia Town, said Long Beach police Officer Eric Stachura.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that a male adult suspect broke into the female adult victim’s residence and assaulted her,” Stachurasaid. “The suspect fled the scene and carjacked a vehicle in the area of Anaheim Street and Cherry Avenue.”

The fleeing suspect was allegedly involved in a non-injury crash in the area of Seventh Street and Atlantic Avenue, he said. Officers located the carjacked vehicle nearby in the 500 block of Lime Avenue and arrested the man.
