Charges have been filed against three men involved in what police are calling a “brutal crime,” in which a 22-year-old Long Beach man was kidnapped, robbed and tortured, according to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) released Wednesday.

LBPD officers were dispatched to a bank on the 5700 block of Pacific Coast Highway on February 21 at about 9:30AM to investigate a possible bank crime.

Upon arrival, they interviewed the victim, a 22-year-old male resident of Long Beach, who was with another subject, later identified as 20-year-old Patrick Adams of Long Beach.

During the investigation, officers learned the victim had been kidnapped, assaulted, tortured and robbed over several hours at a residence in Long Beach by multiple suspects, including Adams, who knew the victim personally.

According to the police statement, Adams had taken the victim to the bank to withdraw money, at which point the victim was able to notify bank personnel to call the police.

The victim was then transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Robbery detectives learned Adams arranged for the victim to meet him at his residence on the 4700 block of Malta Street. Once the victim arrived, Adams and the other suspects tied him up and assaulted him with blunt instruments while demanding money from him.

“At some point during the assault, one of the suspects took the victim’s vehicle, drove to the victim’s apartment, and took items from his home,” police said in a statement. “On February 23, 2015, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department came into contact with the vehicle in Dana Point, which by then had been reported stolen. The person in the vehicle, 23-year old Eric Riddle-Rios of Anaheim, was taken into custody.”

Detectives continued their investigation and learned a third suspect involved in the incident lived in San Diego. Detectives traveled to San Diego on February 27 and arrested 21-year-old Ryan Scott Urban at his home, located on the 16000 block of Santa Cristobal Street.

All suspects have been booked into Los Angeles County Men’s Jail on various bail amounts.

The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, and Patrick Adams was charged on February 25 with torture, kidnapping, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, criminal threats, false imprisonment and kidnapping to commit a robbery. His bail has been set at $2,280,000.

Eric Riddle-Rios was charged on February 26 with torture, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and false imprisonment. His bail has been set at $1,345,000.

Ryan Scott Urban was charged on March 3 with torture, kidnapping, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and kidnapping to commit robbery. His bail has been set at $2,230,000.
