Seven members and associates of the Baby Insane Crip gang pled guilty Monday for crimes in a burglary ring responsible for over $100,000 in losses to Radio Shack and T-Mobile. A restitution hearing will be held in October.
These convictions, along with three others previously sentenced, stemmed from a two-and-a-half year investigation into a murder and series of shootings that began in late 2009. Most were arrested in June 2012 when the Long Beach Police Department served 27 warrants across the Southland.
Charges included commercial burglary with gang allegations, residential burglary, possession of a firearm and receiving stolen property. All defendants were sentenced to at least three years in prison with the highest sentence among the seven being 10 years.
Two of the defendents charged in the burglary ring, Sabrille Acklin and Donovan Halcomb, are still awaiting trail on accessory charges relating to the 2009 murder of 19 year-old Frank Castro. It was discovered last year by police that Acklin was the leader of the Baby Insane Crips gang and ran a criminal enterprise in Long Beach from his home in Rialto.
The primary suspects in Castro’s murder, Johnney Smith and Davin Daniels, are still awaiting trial.
