A man in his late 30s was shot dead today during an apparent robbery outside a bank in a shopping center in Paramount.

The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting, which occurred just before 11 a.m. in the 15900 block of Paramount Boulevard, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau reported.

The shooting appeared to have occurred as the man struggled with two men during a robbery, although that has not been confirmed, Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau Lt. Charles Calderaro told reporters at the scene.

The victim was a well-known area businessman who frequently used the Bank of America branch near the shooting scene, according to ABC 7. Distraught members of the man’s family showed up at the scene, the station reported.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives asked anyone with any information regarding the crime to call them at 323-890-5500.
